I wonder what the special promotion is.
Probably something semi lame like a free smart cover if you buy an ipad.
Or nothing at all and they are just doing a 'front page' featuring all the various tablets you can get. they have gotten bad PR for doing that and not having any in stock which could be why they are holding non pre-orders.
I also heard that there is no ad and they aren't selling 'walk ins' because they might have to redistribute them to other stores to fill pre-orders. Because they are starting to get some bad press and complaints about the wait. Which is also why they have been told not to take anymore pre-orders for the time being.
what I wonder is, if your unit comes up doing the promotion since you put money down is it considered already sold. Or was it basically a deposit and you are actually 'buying' it that day and can take advantage of what deal there might be

I remember, I was so excited for this to arrive all day at school. I was a 17 year-old high school senior, just itching to get out of class because I knew the package would arrive that day. I had been running OS X Public Beta on my iMac DV SE and was ready for the real thing! Little did I know that, as far as I go, the "real thing" came with 10.2 on my next LCD iMac!

The point dejo was trying to make, is that you are missing a VERY basic Objective C (well, any language really) fundamental.
This:
- (void) cancelIt:(NSTimer*)timer
does NOT create an object.
It's simply a map to say "When I call this method, I will pass in an existing timer object". It is still your responsibility to allocate/initialize a timer and then pass that into your method. Simply using the selector as you are doing wouldn't accomplish this.
At some point you would have to do something like:
[self cancelIt:MyExistingAndValidTimerObject];

GASP. your too picky, I fell in love with it at 10.3. Expose was a big thing in my opinion
Agreed. I think I would still be satisfied with 10.3.9 as a primary. One big up would be no sign of dashboard whatsoever. I have it running on a clamshell iBook, but expos is not such fun on that lol.

And I can get a knife or fork at one of dozens of restaurants inside the terminal post security. What's your point?
George Carlin, once again, is right:
And if you didnt take a weapon on board, relax. After youve been flying about an hour, theyre gonna bring you a knife and fork! They actually give you a ****ing knife. Its only a table knife, but you could kill a pilot with a table knife. It might take a couple of minutes. Especially if hes hefty. But you could get the job done. If you really wanted to kill the prick. ****, there are a lot of things you could use to kill a guy. You could probably beat a guy to death with the Sunday New York Times, couldnt you? Suppose you just have really big hands? Couldnt you strangle a flight attendant? ****, you could probably strangle two of them, one with each hand. That is, if you were lucky enough to catch em in that little kitchen area. Just before they break out the ****in peanuts. But you could get the job done. If you really cared enough.

Google Video + YouTube + Myspace + Apple's Servers = enough bandwidth?
If not, could someone put up a torrent? From what it sounds like, the torrent would download quicker than the quicktime stream. Especially once you start getting 100+ seeders.
The question is, how many hardcore mac users know how to forward their ports? I'm making a guess that the average point-and-click user isn't also the one to know the exact date of the yearly keynote. Isn't it more of a developer/advanced user thing?

Curiouser and curiouser.
If it's a fake, whoever did it did a pretty interesting job on it.
It looks plausible.
I mean we had:
iphone 3g
iphone 3gs
why not
iphone 4
iphone 4gs
Which would give incentive for people to go for the white one I guess.
then the 5 comes out later?

And I'll take this any day over Windows.
so, u'd let steve jobs decide what u can and can't do with your computer? thats kinda sad ...
Whew!! They also brought Safari's "Drag Image to Desktop to save Image File" back in this Preview Build. :D
In previous Lion Builds, dragging an image to the desktop resulted in a Safari Link file to the Image's location on the web.
this got already fixed with the last update tho

I still think OS X peaked from an aesthetic and reliability standpoint with Panther. They've added more capabilities of course, but I'm always noticing fresh things missing with each release, and what with the interface becoming progressively duller and dingier....
That said, if OS X goes away, I'll simply stop using a computer. The alternatives aren't worth the suffering.

That was painful to watch. Sort of like Jack Ass: The Geek Edition. Of course they should be banned. Gizmodo was interfering with companies trying to present their products.

So THAT'S what this house is! No wonder why there were no windows diagrammed in the blueprints!
In that case, the only thing a robber needs to do to get into the iHouse is jailbreak the security system :D

2. There won't be a Microsoft AppStore for Windows INTEGRATED INTO WINDOWS. EVER. Why? Because they can't for LEGAL reasons...
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the Windows Live Marketplace in Windows Vista a integrated (badly integrated but still integrated), App Store before it was discontinued due to lack of consumers and made to redirect to a Microsoft website that sold some products?

Wow, so much for the spoiler free link. I just checked the page and saw WHAT THEY ANNOUNCED in some kind of news ticker!!!!!!!
Maybe next year.
 I just refreshed before you said that and I saw that too. Ah, well. We don't know any details so the wait isn't completely lost.

Thats just the NT version. Windows 8 will be 6.2
7 was 6.1,
Vista was 6.0
XP was 5.0
Technically Windows 7 is the 10th version of Windows, if you don't count Windows Server.
Windows 7 is the 7th version if you count from Windows 95.
According to Wikipedia, Windows 8 will be NT version 6.2, not 7.0 - just in case you were wondering.

Thats wrong, its not free as is freedom. If that was the case I should be able to do as I please with the code and that is not the case. If I use the free(GPL) software as a baseline for a project I then have to turn around and release all the changes I made for free as well. This may be hundreds of hours of work and I don't know anyone that works for free.
So then you only consider the BSD license to be free?

It works in Slashdot, but only because you have Kudos rating and meta-moderation.
Without meta-moderation the trolls get equal voting powers to everyone else - and all hell will break loose as people vote up friends and down 'enemies'.
I think it's a good idea in general though. It would be great to cut through a 30 page thread and see only the top 10 posts.

Whilst hilarious for the first few times, it did go on way too far.
And they shouldn't have done it to live presentations, that's just plain evil.
I also hope they're not allowed to Macworld. Even if they have matured up, banning them from it this year will ensure that they don't misbehave the next time.
