Not just for interest though - if Apple do not take a firm presence in the rapidly developing (India, China) countries now, they may well face the same uphill battle against Windows they have been fighting for the past whatever years in the US.

Apple can't really compete in those countries. For Apple to have any sort of real presence there, there would have to be some sort of ~$300 Mac. And even at that price it would be considered expensive in India and China.

In those countries (and corporate sales) it's all about low cost commodity pcs. Apple doesn't do that.

Besides, given Apple's current marketshare, there are plenty of gains to be made just in the US. Apple could easily double it's world share just by focusing on the US.

Now: corporate contributions are legal money laundering operations. If you follow the money, I pay for goods which go into company funds which are used to contribute to buy Republican candidates who are dedicated to passing corporate-friendly laws that make my air dirtier and my food unhealthier, and that lower my standard of living until they finally ship my job to another country. Nice racket they have going. Has anybody ever noticed that the well never dries of money to buy off our government? I just love watching them cry about regulation; very classy.

Almost took the words right out of my mouth. Anyone who doesn't realize the hypocrisy in the original statement has their head in the sand.

All you have shown is a deep-seated fear of advertising. And it's been stated that Apple doesn't actually collect this data, so it isn't even being used for iAds.

How exactly, specifically, will this cell phone tower tracking info compromise your personal safety? What exactly is there to fear? There must be something more than targeted advertising, which is at best an annoyance you have to live with anyway.

Some people just don't like to be tracked. If the data fell into to hands of an untoward person, then there might be an issue.

    Who is this "untoward person"?

    What would the "issue" be?

This is great news, and that's a lot of macs! I can't help but think part of this is a big group of people waiting to buy a PC until it comes with Vista. Maybe I'm giving them too much credit, but if I could wait a couple months on the purchase to avoid an imminent ~$150+ O.S. upgrade I would.

I heard this is all a rumor!!! (

Coming as little surprise to veteran Apple watchers, IDG World Expo announced on Tuesday that Apple CEO Steve Jobs would deliver the opening keynote address ( at Macworld Expo San Francisco. The expo will be held at San Francisco's Moscone Convention Center from January 8-12, with the keynote on Tuesday January 9th at 9 am Pacific at Moscone West.

Last year's keynote brought software updates including iLife ( and iWork ( 06 and Mac OS X 10.4.4 ( Also, the first Intel Macs were announced 6 months early in the form of the iMac ( and MacBook Pro (

While still early, this year's expectations have already begun to gain steam, with obvious expectations of iLife ( and iWork ( updates as well as the formal launch of the "iTV". Also possible is Apple's long-awaited phone and similarly long-awaited "true" video iPod, although both products have seen several setbacks. Lastly, with OS 10.5 Leopard's release around the corner, Jobs will undoubtedly take the opportunity to highlight some already announced (and perhaps some remaining "top-secret") features of the new operating system.

Now you see, OP is a true Apple diehard fan. FYI, Apple didn't and doesn't invent anything new. What they have in their devices is exactly what other devices have and had in them for a while. All Apple does is redesigns as they see it, but YOU pay the premium for that.

    Is Macbook pro amazing? Yes
Will I swap my MCPro for anything else? No
Did I pay a hefty premium for it? Hell yes
Can I get the same thing from Dell or Toshiba for less? Absolutely YES

Apple products look unique from the outside, but in reality they are the same devices others have but in different packages.

The DMCA changed that, and until it's tested in court anything where encryption is used or even potentially used is not "safe" to reverse engineer in the US.

Not "anything where encryption is used." But if something is encrypted, it can only be reverse engineered under 1201(f):

    yawn! the disc is dead.
    (dying, at least.)

I personnally don't agree. Movies you can buy and download still have poorer resolution, only one language, no bonus. Plus it takes so much room on your hard drive! You end up having to burn them anyway on a disc, or having to buy two huge hard drives for backup/safety purpose in case your hard drive dies. I own something like 150 DVD. That's about 1 TB (2 TB if you backup) You really can't compare it to the music situation. Movies on DVD are cheaper than music CD. I get brand new DVDs through internet for an average of 7 ($8.77). For me to buy a movie on iTunes, it would have to sell for 3 or 4 ($4 or $5) to be worth it.

I don't know why people feel the need to put others down over their choice of electronic gadgets. People should get what best suits their needs and forget about what others are using. Personally, I would just ignore the rude comments.

Yeah, I live in a place where there are a lot more important things going on that how you're calling someone or checking your email.

    I agree.

Well, in this case, many hospitals require you to have a car seat on hand before you drive your newborn home. So, there is some input from doctors based on a public health perspective. And, frankly, it's a good thing.

Yes, I noted the variability of the argument in an earlier post. You distilled it down nicely. There are overtones though regarding the role of government in controlling what doctors can and can't do that I find distasteful in both situations while, as you pointed out, others seem ok with in some.

"There is nothing wrong with a doctor talking to anyone about guns, as they can be a risk to health."

True, if at the bar in the country club among friends, or at a session of shooting skeet. I've taught a couple of doctors about guns, and freely admit to knowing them. Doctors can be okay people, although some are socially unacceptable IMO.

But otherwise it's exactly like asking someone how much money they have in the bank. You don't ask a farmer how many acres he owns--which is the same thing. Nor ask a rancher how many head of cattle he runs. Rude, discourteous and just plain ignorant.

Rude, discourteous and just plain ignorant is assaying pretty high-grade in today's society--but it's still stupidity at its finest.

A doctor has no way of knowing the circumstances of somebody's homelife--and since there are tens of millions of homes I submit that there is no "One size fits all" to allow some outsider's judgement. He is no expert on firearms use or safety, absent being a "gunny" himself.

It's nobody's business how much of what that I own or how much money I have. Ah, well, nothing's really new among idiots. Hank Williams sang about it over sixty years ago: "If you mind your own business, then you won't be minding mine; if you mind your own business you'll stay busy all the time."

Didn't know things were so different down in Texas, but here in Iowa it's not rude to ask a farmer how many acres they have nor how many cattle they run. My family farm has both, and we get those questions all the time. Not a big deal. That being said, if my doctor asked me if I had guns, and how many, in the course of a checkup, my response would be... "Why? Why in the world do you want to know that?" If he said so that he could calculate risk and provide suggestions in that regard, I'd tell him to kindly mind his own business and I'd tend to the safety of my own family. If he was a jerk about it, I'd get a new doctor... plain and simple. The government shouldn't be involved at all in telling him what he can and can't ask... it's a free country. Likewise, if that same doctor asked me what my religion was, I answered Lutheran, to which he replied that he could no longer provide me services as he only did business with straight atheists, I would be totally ok with that as well. His choice. If it was life and death, and he let me die when no other alternatives were available, then it'd be a prosecutable offense having nothing to do with religion.

The market doesn't need the PC to evolve anymore. From a hardware perspective, most people could use hardware made 5 years ago to do the simple applications they use.

On the other hand, PC software has evolved where there has been a need and competition drives it.

Building things cheaper at the sake of cutting costs and innovation doesn't work. The american automobile industry is a living proof of that.

You are correct on the first part. Apple removed the need for most people to need a PC with the introduction of the Ipad.

99% of the junk from China wouldn't exist if you were correct on the last part.

    Are you just kidding?

Oh well I will just answer it just in case.

    Vista = version 6 :(

Windows 7 = version 7 :) No blue screen ever just in case anyone is wondering.

    Windows 8 = version 8 :D When it comes out, 2015?

Actually I have seen a number of explanations on this thread from people who use Windows more than myself. The answer to why it is "7" does not seem to be well known even to Windows users.

Because it took them 7 years to get it right.

    LOL. And counting.

Does that mean it took Apple 10 years to get OSX right? :p

    Actually 10 comes after 9.

Another way to go about tracking is via the MAC address. It is unique to your xbox and in theory just a traceable as an ip address. You should probably have it from the earlier logs when the box was near your house. You could go to each Internet service in town and ask if this MAC address is hitting their network.

    Worth a shot.

    Mar 5, 03:12 PM
Why is Apple the only tech company that makes unique products? All the other big ones seem to just drop in behind Apple after they invent something... Examples:

Phones that are designed to simply compete with the iPhone.
    Pretty much every non-Apple tablet.
    iMac lookalikes.
I've even seem some unibody copy cats...

Why don't they try and come up with something of their own instead of trying to "make a better Apple product"? Its annoying...

Um, am I missing something here?

That is a completely different song??? And I don't understand what you're trying to say.

The way Kathie Lee needed Regis that's the way yall need Jesus
So here go my single dog radio needs this
They say you can rap about anything except for Jesus
That means guns, sex, lies, video tapes
But if I talk about God my record won't get played Huh?
Well let this take away from my spins
Which will probably take away from my ends
Then I hope this take away from my sins

He's saying bla bla bla, God help me in one song, then cursing and using the overly said "n" word. It sounds like he's sending 2 different messages.
